Wanda Nell Williams

Daughter of
Ola Simmons & Jesse Lee Williams

Wanda was born at home,
416 Montecito Drive

This was in the days when doctors made house calls.  Dr John Sessums came to the house for the birth.

The Williams family lived in this house until Wanda was 13 and then they moved across town to 227 North Malone Street.

This is Ola Williams' favorite picture of her daughter.  Wanda has been hanging from that bar a very long time. The style of the straw hat that Willis is wearing was very common for little boys - and some times  girls wore them too.

Women and girls always wore "Sun Bonnets" whenever they went outside.  Wanda can remember wearing them up through most of Santa Rita Grade School.  She eventually wore the straw version through grade school Tan cotton hose and garter belts were also worn.  Remember girls did not wear pants at this time, so they had to have something to keep their legs warm.  Wanda did not wear shorts until after she was married and slacks, or blue jeans, when she was at San Angelo Junior College.

LIFE CAN BE SO SERIOUS when you are a little girl

The dime stores used to have little booths where for a quarter a picture could be taken

Grand Mother Mary DeLillian Gates Simmons made this doll for Wanda Nell Williams’ Christmas.  The year is not remembered.  Granny made these dolls for each and every one of her 7 Grand daughters
